The Neil Campbell Rowing Centre was awarded the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) Architecture Prize in the category of Specialised Facilities. The IOC, IPC and IAKS are committed to advocating for excellence in the visioning, design and operation of fully-inclusive and universally accessible indoor and outdoor facilities. As their 2023 award recipient (and one of six award-winning sports and leisure facilities in Canada.), the Neil Campbell Rowing Centre was recognized for the following achievements:
- sensible sustainability and public value, including a design that achieves both net-zero energy and net-zero carbon emission benchmarks;
- exemplary accessibility and universal design;
- strong functional planning and innovation; and
- exceptional architectural design.
The Neil Campbell Rowing Centre was developed by MJMA Architecture & Design with Raimondo + Associates Architects and is operated by the Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation. The Centre was built as a legacy facility for the 2022 Canada Games, and will play host when the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23, Under 19 Championships return to St. Catharines from August 18-25, 2024.
